So about a week from today, (July 4th, 2012) I had never, ever heard of the Cocteau Twins. I recognized the track Cherry-Coloured Funk, but I wasn't sure where from. In any case I decided to give the album "Heaven or Las Vegas" a listen.
And for about a week straight, I've listened to this album about once a day. It's beautiful, relaxing stuff. The soft guitars and the rarely coherent vocals of Elizabeth Fraser are meant to be together. I'm dumbstruck at how much I enjoy it all.
What was that about the incoherent vocals? Well, listening to this album, you may find yourself asking..."What the hell is she saying?" a lot.
To that I say, "What does it matter?" I understand her tone, her emotion, so there. Have you ever listened to a song in a language you didn't understand? This is kind of like that. And again. The soft instruments around Fraser's vocals just weave this light, relaxing sound. I don't know what else to say really, maybe this isn't the deepest album the 90's has to offer but it's so very enjoyable.
